Bohol Python

(Tag. Sawa; Vis. Baksan; Scientific name: Python reticulatus)

Dubbed as "the world's largest living snake in captivity," Prony is Albur's superstar python . Discovered by Sofronio Salibay on the 21st October 1996 in a local cemetery in Albur, Prony approximately weighed 5 kilograms and measured 5 meters then. The snake was named after the captor.

As of the year 2008, she weighs approximately 250 kilograms, measures 26 feet long and 30 inches in circumference (of the snake's body). And she continues to grow each year.

While the family intended only to keep Prony as a pet, her unusual growth rate had caught the attention of curious neighbors, the media, and eventually, the tourists. She became an instant talk of the town that even celebrity tourists themselves (from here and abroad) are starstruck by the snake's star appeal. As there has been an increasing demand to see Prony, the family decided to open their private home to the public.

Prony undergoes molting, the process of shedding skin, once every month. On the day of molting, she usually rubs her mouth against a hard surface until the outer layer begins to pull off the head. Once this happens, her caretakers help her pull off the rest of the skin down to the tail.

A few days after molting, Prony is now ready to eat. Prony eats only once a month as snakes of her size take much longer time to digest food. She is being fed with a 60kg white pig and goat alternately.
